Pashupati: The Lord of Life
One Body, One Nation

Pashupatinath is the largest temple complex in Nepal and one of the most sacred religious sites in Asia for devotees of Shiva. A beacon of religious, cultural and spiritual significance, this ancient temple plays an important role in the lives of the Nepalese people and Shiva devotees who travel here to soak in this powerful space.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its unique arrangement of shrines and temples.

In this podcast, Sadhguru explains about the pre-vedic Pashupatinath Temple and how Shiva rose above animal nature to become Pashupati, the Lord of Life.

Although entry to the main temple is only permitted for Hindus, there is much to see for all visitors in the outer temple complex. Everyone is free to explore the numerous smaller temples, shrines, and the temple’s cremation ghat.

Sadhus:

Spiritual Seekers

The Sanskrit terms Sadhu and Sadvi (women monks) refer to those who have renounced material comforts and have chosen to live a life focused on the spiritual path. They are mostly seen in India and Nepal living in caves, temples or ashrams.

May we enjoy this pilgrimage in a state of deep receptivity with the Grace of Sadhguru!

Kukur Tihar

The five-day Nepalese Hindu festival of Tihar, also known as Deepawali, dedicates the second day for Kukur Tihar, the day of the dogs.

Nepal’s dog-worshipping tradition comes from Hindu mythology. In Mahabharata, when the Pandavas set out on their final voyage to Swarga, a dog follows them on their journey. Along the way, Yudhishtira loses his brothers and wife, but the loyal dog follows him till the heaven gates. The text says that Yudhishtira refused to enter heaven without the dog, such was the bond they fostered.

PREPARATION TIPS
Functional Footwear
One Body, One Nation

It is extremely important that you get your footwear sorted out and broken-in before the trip to avoid blisters and sore feet.

Please ensure that you have waterproof trekking shoes, NOT just water-resistant! Those coming from India can find suitable options at any Decathlon store in all major cities.

The only other footwear you will need is a pair of sturdy strapped-sandals. Remember to pack sufficient woollen and cotton socks.

May you be blessed with Happy Feet & Happy Trails!

An Intriguing Question

The Pashupatinath Temple visit was an overwhelming experience for me. I witnessed an old woman who was brought inside the shrine, cremated on the banks of Bagmati River within a few minutes. Will I ever have this fortune of being in my Lord's presence during my last breath? That question was intriguing to me...
